2015 Grammy Predictions

Sunday, the 57th Grammy Awards will be telecast on CBS.    Who will take home the trophies and what performances will dominate the water cooler conversations Monday morning?

Best Live Performance

grammy-awards-57thNew songs will be debuted by Madonna (Living For Love),  Katy Perry (By The Grace of God), Rihanna/Kanye West/Paul McCartney (Fourfiveseconds), and Beyonce & John Legend are teaming up for a gospel performance.   AC/DC, Ed Sheeran with E.L.O., and of course Lady Gaga should each grab our attention.   My pick:    Beatlemania + Rihanna + Kanye! The song is ridiculously catchy but never count out Madonna’s flair for the dramatic stealing the show.

Record of the Year:

Fancy – Iggy Azalea

Chandelier – Sia

Stay With Me – Sam Smith

Shake It Off – Taylor Swift

All About That Bass – Meghan Trainor

taylor-swift-shake-it-offSam Smith’s piano-driven emotional song is a heavy contender.  But the likely winner of Best New Artist may lose a votes after the controversy from borrowing pieces of  Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down”.   The conservative Grammy Awards will proudly beam when Taylor Swift takes home the top prize for the night’s biggest award.

Beyonce’ – Beyonce’

X – Ed Sheeran

In The Lonely Hour – Sam Smith

Girl – Pharrell Williams

Beyonce-newCDOnce again, Sam Smith could steal the night with a huge victory here.  But odds are stacked against Sam, Beyonce’s self-titled album changed the way artists are bucking the system and releasing their music on their terms.  Grammy makes up for not nominating her “Drunk In Love” single and Queen B wins her first Best Album Grammy.

All About That Bass – Meghan Trainor

Chandelier – Sia

Shake It Off – Taylor Swift

Stay With Me (Darkchild Version) – Sam Smith

Take Me To Church – Hozier

Sam_Smith_StaywithmeAre you seeing a trend here?   Sam Smith could need a wheelbarrow to take home his Grammy haul tonight.   Hozier’s incredible “Take Me To Church” would shock the crowd but it’s a worthy nominee that deserves to win.  When it comes to production, lyrics, and execution this ones comes down to “Stay With Me” versus “Chandelier” – prediction:  Sam Smith wins this one to go along with his Best New Artist Grammy
