Oscar winner, Jared Leto, knows exactly to mesmerize us on camera. From his days as Jordan Catalano on My So-Called Life to Fight Club to Requiem For A Dream to Dallas Buyers Club, he embodies the characters so deeply that we can’t help but connect with him. This summer he attempts the impossible, playing The Joker in the latest installment of Warner Brothers Batman sequel, Suicide Squad. Could he be the third actor to get nominated for an Oscar for the same character? Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto? Marlon Brando (Best Actor) and Robert Deniro (Best Supporting Actor) each won an Oscar for playing Vito Corleone at different stages of his life in the first two Godfather films. It’s been nine years since Ledger’s Oscar win, I wouldn’t count Jared out this year!
“CITY OF ANGELS” (Piano Version)
Jared’s flair for the dramatic and the ability to squeeze all of the emotions out of a song’s lyrics shine brightest on his band’s unplugged performances. Like a mathematical inverse relationship, when 30 Seconds To Mars go acoustic, the trio’s high energy alternative rock sound becomes more subdued but the intensity of Jared’s vocals rises exponentially. Here’s three of the band’s greatest unplugged performances, a Kanye West cover (Stronger), a Rihanna / Mikky Ekko ballad (Stay), and a tribute to Jared’s hometown, Los Angeles (City of Angels). If you want to dig deeper, their version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and “Hurricane” beautifully contrast the amazing original versions.
