“HOW LONG”      ACE

ace-how_long_paul_CarrackPaul Carrack was dubbed “the Man with the Golden Voice” by the BBC.   He was not only the lead singer of Mike And The Mechanics, Squeeze, Ace, Paul also had a nice solo career including a Top 20 hit with “Don’t Shed A Tear.”   His first big hit became a classic rock favorite, “How Long”, with Ace.   The band was much more popular in his native U.K. but it did reach #3 in 1974 on the U.S. Billboard Charts.

“YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY”     Rex Smith

Rex Smith Teen IdolRemember all of  those overly dramatic 70’s afternoon TV specials with their message about drugs, child abuse, or teen pregnancy?    One of the most memorable was “Sooner Or Later“, the story of a teenage girl (Denise Miller) in love with a rock star (Rex Smith).   The big story line was should she lose her virginity with him or wait until marriage?    Rex Smith, future soap opera and Broadway star, got his big break here not only as the lead actor.   Rex’s song “You Take My Breath Away” hit #10 in 1979 and became a permanent fixture on every cheesy 70’s lite-radio station.   Rex went on to become the host of Solid Gold, the weekly countdown TV show with the flashiest dancers of the 80’s.
