the babys everytime i think of you john waiteCheck out a young John Waite on the Midnight Special! Songs like “Isn’t It Time” and “Back On My Feet Again” instantly take you back to another era when pop songs had substance and the lyrics meant something. Play something by Ke$ha or Iggy Azalea and you feel bad for today’s youth with those vapid lyrics and contrived beats. On this live version, check out the background singers: Melanie Chartoff, an 80’s comedian famous for her role on Fridays and Rugrats. And then you’ve got Annie Bertucci, a powerful vocalist with matching red hair to John Waite.

This is the epitome of 70’s funk. One of the most sampled songs of all-time, James’ legendary “Get On Up! Stay on the Scene! Like A Sex Machine!” is as smooth as a vintage fine wine. The song become one of James’ biggest hits of the decade, a concert staple, and rightfully earns a place on Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 500 songs of All-Time.

firefall just remember i love youFrom 1974, Firefall joined the Eagles, Jackson Browne, and The Pure Prairie League as bands combining 70’s soft rock with a country attitude. Firefall isn’t a household name but who can forget songs like “Strange Way” and their biggest hit, “You Are The Woman”. Based out of Boulder, Colorado, the band is celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year. The band roster may have changed over the years, but they still sound almost the same. If you grew up in this era, these nostalgic songs really hold a special place in your life. Big thank you to Mel for the amazing song choices today!
