Academy Awards Quiz – Best Original Song 80’s Edition

Think you’re an expert on 80s trivia?  How about Oscar winners?   Let’s put your skill to the test with a quiz on the 10 winners of the Academy Award for Best Original Song from the years 1980 to 1989.   I’ll give you the year and rather than give you the songwriter or producer, I’ll supply with the artist who who sang the Oscar winner (hint: one is a Disney classic).  You’ll need to provide the  A) song title and  B) the movie it appeared in.  One point for each part so 2 points possible for each year.   Before you get too cocky, let me warn you the last two are tough!

1980    Irene Cara

1981   Christopher Cross

1982   Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes

1983   Irene Cara

1984   Stevie Wonder

1985   Lionel Richie

1986   Berlin

1987   Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes

1988   Carly Simon

1989   Samuel E. Wright

And the answers are :

1980   “Fame” from Fame

1981   “Arthur’s Theme: Best That You Can Do” from Arthur

1982   “Up Where We Belong” from An Officer and A Gentleman

1983   “Flashdance” from Flashdance

1984   “I Just Called To Say I Love You” from The Woman In Red (Prince was robbed here)

1985   “Say You Say Me” from White Nights

1986   “Take My Breath Away” from Top Gun

1987   “(I’ve Had The) Time Of My Life” from Dirty Dancing

1988   “Let The River Run” from Working Girl

1989   “Under The Sea” from The Little Mermaid

A score of 18 or more and you’re a true Oscar savant!

A score of 14 to 17 and you’re probably a ringer at your office Oscar tournament.

A score of 10 to 13 and you didn’t embarrass yourself.

A score below 9…..I’m sorry but we ran out of participation ribbons.
