50 First Dates Soundtrack: Sandler/Barrymore’s 2nd Tribute to the 80’s

Spotlight CD:   50 First Dates Soundtrack

Adam Sandler’s “The Wedding Singer” paid homage to the 80’s by bringing back the outfits, the hairstyles, even Billy Idol, along with a incredible collection of iconic 80’s songs.  When Adam and Drew Barrymore teamed up for their second film together, 50 First Dates, they went to Hawaii and rekindled their love of 80’s music. The soundtrack featured 12 reggae and ska covers of some of the biggest hits of the 80’s plus one original (Adam Sandler’s “Good Morning Lucy”).

50 first datesThe inspired collection of 80’s covers is the perfect soundtrack for a tiki bar party. The laid-back reggae vibe mixed with such familiar melodies is so relaxing. Then you add in the all-star lineup: You’ve got reggae artists like Wayne Wonder, Ziggy Marley, and Elan mixing with beach bands like 311, Gwen Stefani, and Sugar Ray. If you can avoid the knee-jerk reaction to hearing classics like “Every Breath You Take” and Spandau Ballet’s “True” so radically different, you’ll have a great trip down memory lane.

The Cure:  “Friday I’m In Love” (Dryden Mitchell) and “Love Song” (311)

Spandau Ballet’s “True” (Black Eyed Peas)

The Car’s “Drive”   (Ziggy Marley)

Bryan Ferry’s “Slave To Love” by Elan Atias and Gwen Stefani!
