For the first time, America’s Got Talent TV show was won by a magician. Mat Franco took home the Season 9 title, but the year was special for having 4 of the final 6 acts being musical acts. On previous seasons the eventual winner seemed fairly obvious after watching week after week. But this year, judges Howard Stern and Howie Mandel both proclaimed that it was up for grabs with the most talented roster the show had ever seen. I’m calling it early, two of these finalists, Emily West and Sons of Serendip, will have albums in the Top 10 next year.
The final four singers included precious 12 yr old, Quintavious Johnson who wowed the crowd with powerful performances of songs by artists like Etta James and Mary J. Blige. There was a unique four piece band named Sons Of Serendip that just recently got together. Formed at grad school at Boston University, two teachers, an attorney, and a grocery clerk formed a beautiful soulful band with cellos, harps, and a calming inspirational tone. The dreamboat, Miguel Dakota, won the hearts of every female fan watching with his rock covers. But the most controversial and talented singer was Emily West who previously had a recording contract and a couple country hits almost a decade ago. Emily reinvented her style as a glamorous old fashioned Diva with incredible pipes rivaling artists like Celine and Mariah. Most seasons any of these four could have won the title. Look out for future albums from each of these amazing artists, America truly has talent and we haven’t seen the last of these finalists.
