BE WHAT YOU ARE: Live At Daryl’s House

“DO WHAT YOU WANT, BE WHO YOU ARE”   Daryl Hall with Sharon Jones

daryl hall liveIt’s as if, you’re at a blues nightclub in 1974 and the house DJ drops the needle on a gorgeous, soulful jam that gets everyone out of their seat for a last call slow dance.   From Live From Daryl’s House TV show, Sharon Jones joins Daryl Hall for a killer combination of two R&B powerhouse singers who know exactly how to ooze every ounce of soul and passion out of the lyrics.   Daryl’s falsetto over the keyboards mixed with Sharon’s powerful voice sucks you deeply into the lyrics.  As the saxophone solo finishes the song, you realize old school R&B is still alive and well in 2013.

“WAIT FOR ME” Pat Monahan (Train) with Daryl Hall

hqdefaultOne of the best episodes of Daryl Hall’s house party jam session TV show was his pairing with Pat Monahan of Train. Despite Train’s huge popularity, you could sense that Pat recognized he was incredibly fortunate enough to be able to jam with one of the greatest blue-eyed soul singers of the past 40 years. Their duet of Hall & Oates “Wait For Me” faithfully respects the original yet manages to inject a new energy with Pat. Check out at the 3:30 mark of the video when Monahan takes the congregation to church!
