Black Coffee – Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa

What do you get when you combine one of the greatest Blues guitarists going today with one of the most powerful female vocalists of our time?   Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa first teamed up in 2011 for “Don’t Explain” and followed up together in 2013 for their Grammy nominated album, “Seesaw”.  Covers of songs by the likes of Etta James, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Billy Holiday, and Nina Simone soared with Beth’s incredible voice backed by the soulful guitar solos by Bonamassa.   Get ready for Round #3, “Black Coffee” was just released this week and they’re covering the powerhouses again.   Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, and Edgar Winter are just a few of the artists that get the Hart/Bonamassa reinterpretation this time around.

The music video for “Black Coffee”, the album’s title track, was released in December 2017.    As of January 27th, it has only 250,000 hits on YouTube for their brilliant collaboration.  At the same time, a cheesy pop track can get 5 million hits in a week?   Do yourself a favor and check out two masters at work in the recording studing with their video for “Black Coffee” and the funky rocker, “Give It Everything You Got”.  Got to love the not exactly PC line, “you see my skin is white but my soul is black”. If you’re purchasing the album, I highly recommend the Deluxe Version which includes “Baby I Love You”, the Aretha Franklin gem from her days on Atlantic Records in the 60s.
