BLAKE SHELTON COVERS CONWAY TWITTY TWICE!

“TIGHT FITTING JEANS” BLAKE SHELTON

girl-jeansIn June 1981, Conway Twitty challenged conservative country radio with his new single, Tight Fitting Jeans. Sexual double entendres and lines like “there’s a tiger in these tight fitting jeans” and “a cowgirl came alive in those jeans” were unheard of lyrics for the time. A year earlier, Conway released I’d Love To Lay You Down, a similar song with sexual innuendos and a flirty theme. Country radio responded strongly as both songs hit #1 and added to Conway’s total of 55 Number One Hits. This was a record until George Strait recently surpassed his total.

Blake-SheltonConway Twitty’s music has been covered by some of country music’s biggest superstars. Kenny Chesney often includes his version of I’d Love to Lay You Down in concerts. Toby Keith has been known to sneak in a Conway classic at his shows. And Blake Shelton, the 2013 CMA Male Artist of The Year, took Conway’s Goodbye Time to the top of the charts five years ago. Early in Blake’s career, he’s even get the crowds wild singing about those girls in the tight fitting jeans.

“GOODBYE TIME”
