Carmen Electra Sings A Prince Ballad

Fittingly after being discovered by Prince, he gave Tara Patrick her famous new moniker, Carmen Electra.  After being signed to his Paisley Park Record Label, Prince wrote and produced her short-lived music career including this steamy sex ballad.  Vocals are breathy and the arrangement is totally Prince, but it’s a hidden gem.  There were actually four singles released on her only CD.  “Go Go Dancer”, “Everybody Get On Up”, “Fantasia Erotica”, and “Fun”.  If you’re a Prince fan and the Minneapolis sound, Carmen’s CD is a fun listen and worth seeking out. Easily on my list of the most beautiful women of all-time, Carmen will always been on my dream list for being trapped on a desert island. More than just a beauty, Carmen’s career has continued for over 30 years, acting, dancing, and even singing!

Now he’s one of the legends of Motown, but Dennis Edwards had the unenviable task of replacing an icon and founding member of The Temptations, David Ruffin.  Edwards’ amazing baritone voice brought more of a Gospel-tinged sound to the band and his distinctive tone changed the sound of the group.   “Don’t Look Any Further” is from Dennis’ debut solo CD and features Siedah Garrett, most famous for her duet “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” with Michael Jackson. You’ve got to love Dennis’ glare at the beginning of the video. Truly one of the lost R&B classics of the 80’s. Any new R&B soul singer needs to do their homework and listen to the legends like Dennis Edwards.
