In March, the world lost Chuck Berry, the original guitar hero, a rock and roll pioneer who set the tone for the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and every modern day rock band to follow. It’s been 38 years since Chuck Berry released his last album (“Toss It Up” in 1979), but posthumously he’s got a new release named Chuck due in June. We need some of Berry’s feel-good rock and roll energy today and as a bonus, the first music video in Chuck’s illustrious career was released this week for the lead single, “Big Boy”. Although Chuck Berry doesn’t actually appear in the clip, his spirit is alive and strong in the energetic music video. Directors Matt Bizer and Curtis Wayne Millard recreate a sock hop complete with poodle skirts, hot rods, and a Berry imitator. The upbeat party video blends current hip hop style with the ultimate retro throwback. Look for guest appearances by Gary Clark Jr., Tom Morello, Nathaniel Rateliff and Charles Berry III on the album.
