2014 was Ed Sheeran’s breakthrough year. After establishing his presence the past three years on the pop charts with hits like “The A Team” and “Lego House”, the release of his second CD, X, pushed Ed’s career into hyperdrive. The first four singles, “Sing”, “Don’t”, “Thinking Out Loud”, and “Bloodstream” each went Top 10 worldwide. Spotify declared Ed’s album the “most streamed album in the world” for 2014. What makes that even more remarkable is that it wasn’t released until June last year! X won British Top Pop Album of the Year at the Brit Awards and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Album. How do you follow up a year like that?
Most artists never dream of releasing four singles from one album. This is something usually reserved for the likes of Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, and Adele. Well, watch out, Ed’s got two more potential hit songs on X that should keep his fans excited and make 2015 another huge year for the English singer/songwriter.
“PHOTOGRAPH” Ed Sheeran
“Photograph”, a souful ballad about a lost love that will remind you of the best of Snow Patrol. That makes sense since Johnny McDaid of the band helped produce the new single. The line about keeping her photograph in your “ripped jeans” so you’ll always be near is cliche’ but Ed’s delivery will give you goosebumps! The song has been release as an official single in Europe but has yet to be announced in the States. If you’re hoping for an uptempo track along the lines of “Don’t” or “Sing”, you’ll fall in love with “Runaway”, an instant pick-me-up that’ll have you singing a-long from the first listen.
