Dave Grohl surprised us all with the simultaneous release of the Foo Fighter’s new song “Run” and a hilarious music video. It’s been three years since their Sonic Highways album in 2014 and their Saint Cecilia EP in 2015. The band is embarking on a European Tour and the new single will be an instant crowd favorite. What do you most about the Foo Fighters? If you like their softer side, “Run” opens with a soft sensitive tone similar to the acoustic version of “Everlong”. But right at the one minute mark, the volume gets cranked to eleven and they reclaim their title of the “greatest current rock band”. A soaring chorus changes the tempo before they come back in full assault mode as Grohl’s screams carry the final half of the song. It quickly ranks as on the band’s best tracks in recent years. If you’re a fan of seeing the band goofing off in their hilarious videos (“Learning To Fly”, “Big Me”) then you’re going to love this video also directed by Dave. Set in a retirement home, the Foo Fighters (in outrageous costumes) are the house band for the residents. The subdued atmosphere quickly morphs into a revolution complete with the ultimate mosh pit and some stage diving. And stick around the “Thriller” inspired final thirty seconds of the clip!
