“Fresh Off The Boat” – 90’s Rap Tribute

Constance_Wu_FOTBRight after “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family”, the current #3 ranked comedy on network TV ratings goes to  ABC’s hysterical new comedy “Fresh Off The Boat”.   Based on the true story of celebrity chef Eddie Huang, the show portrays his Taiwanese family transition to life in Orlando, FL in the mid-1990’s.   The parents played by Randall Park and the beautiful Constance Wu are perfectly cast in their leading roles.   But the show’s highlight is their precocious pre-teen son, Eddie.   It’s 1995 and Eddie’s discovering Orlando Magic basketball and gangsta rap.  He even tries to pull off the swagger with some of the lingo and an awesome attempt of the gangsta lean walk as he adapts to life in a new middle school.   The opening episode alone had Eddie proudly strut as he shared his Straight “A” report card to his mom to the sounds of Snoop Dogg’s “What’s My Name” blasting from a boombox by his grandmother.
