In 2009, Esquire Magazine tabbed Black Joe Lewis And The Honeybears as “one of the ten bands to break out” at Austin’s annual SXSW music festival. It’s been almost a decade and they’re still toiling in obscurity to the general public. One of the funkiest, nastiest, hard-driving blues bands you’ve likely never heard may finally be discovered by the rest of the country in 2017! Their latest album, “Backlash” went to #3 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart. Over the years, Black Joe Lewis appeared on Letterman, Austin City Limits, Coachella, and wowed audiences but this never translated to a huge market for their music. Like most Blues artists today, their music has been delegated to a niche market of fervent fans but remain a virtual mystery to the masses. Here’s a slice of the band’s best songs over the years and if you’re in the mood for something new, check out their latest album!
“STOP BREAKIN’ DOWN” From their 2011 album, Scandalous, a full out guitar assault with a nasty solo!
“SUGARFOOT” A horns-infused track that conjures up images of 60s Stax bands like Booker T & The MG’s and Otis Redding.
“GET YO SHIT” (fan’s funny home video)
