Happy Valentines Day, Silly Love Songs: Lifehouse, The O’Jays, Darren Criss (Glee)

valentines dog roseHappy Valentines Day! John Lennon once teased Paul McCartney that he wrote too many pop songs, lightweight love songs without substance. Paul fired back with “Silly Love Songs” which asks the question, “some people want to fill the world with silly love songs, what’s wrong with that?” Funny, in retrospect, John Lennon’s belief in the power of love has become his motto. Darren Criss from Fox’s Glee could be a huge superstar if he released a pop CD. Here’s a clip from Glee for their Lonely Hearts party, this version of “Silly Love Songs” is even more upbeat and fun that McCartney’s.

Lifehouse_firsttimeWe’re both looking for something
We’ve been afraid to find
It’s easier to be broken
It’s easier to hide

Looking at you, holding my breath
For once in my life, I’m scared to death
I’m taking a chance, letting you inside

I’m feeling alive all over again
As deep as the sky under my skin
Like being in love, she said, for the first time
Maybe I’m wrong, I’m feeling right
Wherever I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

The world that I see inside you
Waiting to come to life
Waking me up to dreaming
Reality in your eyes

Emotionally+Yours“Emotionally Yours” is one of the most curious songs of all-time. Two Hall of Fame artists have recorded the song and for both artists, most people overlook this incredible, passionate love song. Written by Bob Dylan and released on his “Empire Burlesque” album, the song never became a hit and in my opinion, “Emotionally Yours” is majorly underrated and one of Dylan’s premier love songs. Then Eddie Levert and the O’Jays covered the song in the late 80’s. The song barely made a dent on the Billboard charts and became a lost treasure. Once again, “Emotionally Yours” by the O’Jays is SO underrated and a highlight in the Hall of Fame R&B band’s song catalog.
