“TELL ME WHAT YOUR NAME IS” Ciara
Ciara’s CD, “Fantasy Ride” produced five singles, four featuring special guest stars. “Love Sex Magic” (Justin Timberlake), “Work” (Missy Elliott), “Never Ever” (Young Jeezy), and “”Go Girl” (T-Pain) all landed on the R&B charts but her label missed a golden opportunity with an great song. Ciara slowed things down for a sexy slow burner, “Tell Me What Your Name Is” that never received airplay but anyone who’s a Ciara fan probably lists this song as one of her best ballads to date. Shortly after Ciara released this song, Nicki Minaj dropped her mega-hit “Starships” that sounds eerily similar during the soft chorus part.
Ciara burst onto the scene with “Goodies”, a sexy hip hop duet with rapper Petey Pablo that went straight to #1. “Oh” with Ludacris and “1, 2 Step” with Missy Elliott both reached #2 on the U.S. R&B charts for the Queen of Crunk. If you’re a fan of any of these three Ciara classics, dig a little deeper on her debut CD. “Thug Style” highlighted the softer side of Ciara, a ballad reminiscent of Mya. If you’re looking for Goodies Volume 2, play “Hotline”. “You say you’re single and ready to mingle…..”, this is one of those heavy bass jams that brings everyone to the dancefloor. The label probably thought it was too similar to “Goodies” but this one definitely could have been a hit.
