Who can forget hearing a young Mary J Blige singing “I’m Going Down” on TV at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem. The landmark venue has been recently added to the National Register of Historic Places in the U.S. Everyone from Duke Ellington, Bill Cosby, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder have graced that famous stage. Twice this year, Mary J. Blige had a free night in NYC and dropped in for two of music’s fastest rising stars this year. Last year Mary recorded a track called “F for U” (Fool for You) with the English electronica band, Disclosure. If you’re a fan of 90’s dance music, you’ll love this one! They’ve performed it together at Coachella and even on Jimmy Kimmel earlier this year. But for a special night, Mary joined Disclosure on stage at The Apollo for a funky version of their high energy dance hit. Imagine the crowd’s reaction of coming to see Disclosure and surprised by their special guest star. Disclosure also produced Mary’s upcoming single “Right Now” from her London Sessions CD.

If it worked once, let’s try it again! The silky smooth voice of Sam Smith has been one of music’s brightest surprises in 2014. You’re looking at the probable Best New Artist winner at next year’s Grammy Awards. Sam is one of those blue eyed soul singer that you swear was black until you saw him sing in person. On June 17th, Sam made his debut appearance at the Apollo Theater. When it came time for Sam’s biggest hit, the inspirational “Stay With Me”, Mary J. Blige came out from backstage to join Sam. Talk about two artists bringing out the best in each other! The duo takes the audience to church with an incredible live performance. As a side note, Sam is currently in the Top 20 with “Latch”, a song he recorded with Disclosure.
