If you grew up in the mid-90’s, you couldn’t avoid the onslaught of pop-rock hits that dominated the era. The two biggest bands of the time, Matchbox 20 and The Goo Goo Dolls are taking us back to the 90’s with a double headlining summer concert tour. Tonight, they’ll be playing in Tampa, FL, and featuring a no-frills, hits laden set list while both are also introducing songs from their new 2013 CD’s.
Johnny Reznick and Rob Thomas both flirted with solo careers but their greatest success came as the leaders of the their iconic rock bands. The Goo Goo Dolls will be the opening act. Of course, Johnny will be singing the hits (Name, Iris, Black Balloon) but the upbeat new single, Rebel Soul, and the sensitive, Come To Me, have quickly become crowd favorites from their new Magnetic CD.

Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20 have been performing a 90 minute set. Rob announced at the L.A. stop of the tour, “We’re your house band for a good time tonight!” Both groups sound as strong as ever. Some songs like Push, 3AM, and If You’re Gone have special meaning for so many listeners and during the past 15 years, those memories take on new dimensions. Rob’s been closing the pre-encore set with a solo piano introduction to Bright Lights that swells into a climactic full-band version that brings down the house. Should be an incredible tour to catch this summer!
