Metal Covers: The Crow (City Of Angels), Bobby Darin

KC-and-the-Sunshine-Band-Im-Your-Boogie-ManBrandon Lee’s cult classic, The Crow (1996) spawned a killer soundtrack. One of the highlights was Rob Zombie’s hard driving metal cover of a 70’s disco classic by KC & The Sunshine Band. “I’m Your Boogieman” is one of those cheesy dance floor hits that instantly reminds you of velour suits, white platform shoes, and those Travolta dance moves. Rob’s use of a evil vocoder and an industrial beat takes you in a totally new direction but you can still sing-a-long. He later added a special “Sex On The Rocks” remix on Zombie’s “Supersexy Swingin’ Sounds” CD.

“DREAM LOVER”    The Misfits

misfits dream loverYou’ve got to go back to 1959 when Bobby Darin topped the charts with “Dream Lover”.   Darin, best known for songs like Mack The Knife, Splish Splash, and Beyond The Sea, melted hearts when he crooned his ultimate love song.    The song has been covered by the likes of Rickie Nelson, The Plasmatics, and even John Lennon, but nothing will prepare you for the Misfits version.    One of the original horror punk bands led by Glenn Danzig sped up the tempo and pumped new life into the 50’s classic.
