Michael Buble Covers Phil Spector, Michael Jackson

to_be_loved___michael_bubleMichael Buble’s eighth CD, To Be Loved, was originally released in 2013 with four original songs and ten covers. Buoyed by the upbeat lead single, It’s A Beautiful Day, Michael’s CD became the #3 best selling album in England in 2013. Last year two special deluxe versions were released that added some new tracks. One CD added a thirty minute video of behind the scenes footage of the album’s recording process. The Australian Tour Edition added a new swing version of Beautiful Day, an expected Sinatra-esque cover of the standard My Melancholy Baby, and a brilliant reinterpretation of Phil Spector’s masterpiece, Be My Baby.

Originally given to The Ronettes, Brian Wilson once stated “Be My Baby” was the greatest pop song ever recorded. Michael doesn’t have the luxury of Spector’s Wall of Sound production but his enthusiasm and delivery makes this the gem of the Deluxe Version repackaging set. The majority of Buble’s To Be Loved CD pays homage to the legendary standards and capture Michael’s smooth crooner style. But Michael’s high energy style on songs like “Be My Baby” and a sped-up rendition of Smokey Robinson’s and the Jackson Five’s “Who’s Loving You” really stand out as CD favorites.
