Parents Hate Your Boyfriend? Toby Keith, Bon Jovi, Susan Tedeschi

“GOD LOVE HER”     TOBY KEITH

On Tuesday, Toby Keith is set to release his sixteenth studio album, Hope On The Rocks.   In March 2009, Toby released “God Love Her”,  the greatest anthem for rebellious girls who drive their parents crazy.    The preacher’s daughter “baptized in dirty water” runs out of church, hops on her boyfriend’s motorcycle, and they run away together.   Playing on the cliche line “gotta love her”, the song was the only video released from Toby’s 2008 CD.

“LIVING IN SIN”      BON JOVI

Bon Jovi dominated the rock charts and MTV during the mid to late 80’s.    Their CD, New Jersey, was one of the cassettes that I wore out on my 24 drive from Wisconsin to Florida.   “Living In Sin” is the classic tale of two young lovers fighting against the wish of their parents to stay together.   So many memorable images in this archived video:  The very sexy scene on the beach reminiscent of “From Here To Eternity”, the parents outrage, Richie Sambora’s solo in black in white, when’s the last time you saw this one?

“MAMA, HE TREATS YOUR DAUGHTER MEAN”      SUSAN TEDESCHI

Way back in the 50’s, Ruth Brown, ripped your heart out with a rockin’ blues nugget called “Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean”.     One of the finest female blues artists of all-time, Susan Tedeschi, covered the song in 1998 on her “Just Won’t Burn” CD.    Not only a brilliant vocalist who conjures up reminders of Janis Joplin, Susan’s guitar work is impeccible.   Couple of fun facts about Susan:   She was the opening act for the Rolling Stones in 2003.  She and her husband, Derek Trucks, an equally amazing blues guitar hero, together perform together as The Tedeschi – Trucks Band.   (interesting she got first billing)
