Paying Respect To The Masters: Amy Winehouse, Susan Tedeschi
January 9th, 2014
“I LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU’LL EVER KNOW” AMY WINEHOUSE
“From Mr. Hathaway” – With these three simple words, Amy pays respect to one of the finest rhythm and blues legends of the 70’s. Donny Hathaway recorded this song in 1973 on his last studio album. It became his signature song, a soulful, intense, longing love song that set a new standard for torch ballads. It’s been covered prominently by guitarist Gary Moore but Amy Winehouse’s beautiful live performance of “I Love You More” faithfully reminds us of Donny yet allows Amy to shine with her own incredible style.
“FRIAR’S POINT” SUSAN TEDESCHI
Friar’s Point is a small town in Mississippi, the home of the Delta Blues. Muddy Waters once commented that the only time he saw Blues Giant, Robert Johnson, play was on the front porch of Hirsberg’s Drug Store in Friar’s Point. Muddy said Robert’s style was so ferocious that he could only watch him play for a short while, “Robert was a dangerous man!” In 1998, Susan Tedeschi pays tribute to her blues heroes with the release of “Friar’s Point” on her “Just Won’t Burn” CD.
