Season 9 of NBC’s big hit, The Voice, concludes on Tuesday night. In a wild season where judges, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, not only competed for the championship but started a romance during the recording process. They say it every year, but this season’s talent truly ranks up there as the “best season ever.” When the last 9 contestants performed for the cutdown to the Final 4 and a record 8 out of 9 songs crashed the Top 10 of iTunes. Jordan Smith did the impossible, knocking Adele’s “Hello” out of the #1 slot on the charts with his inspirational version of Queen’s “Somebody To Love” complete with a church choir.
The finalists include Adam Levine’s Jordan Smith, a Kentucky blue-eyed soul singer with a massive voice. Four-time winner, Blake Shelton, has two of the four finalists, the country/soul stylings of schoolteacher Barrett Baber and teenager, Emily Ann Roberts. Both acts got better week after week but Barrett could be a surprise contender for the championship. Pharrell Williams was shut out of the finals, but Gwen Stefani could become the first female judge to win the competition with Jeffery Austin, a master vocalist in the mold of Sam Smith. Austin finds a way to make you feel like every cover song he sings was written especially about his life. My prediction is Jordan Smith and Jeffery Austin will be the finalists. My personal favorite is Austin but the voting public has been all over Jordan Smith this season, so look out for Adam Levine’s third victory this season.
#1 Jordan Smith “SOMEBODY TO LOVE”
#2 Jeffery Austin “DANCING ON MY OWN”
#3 Barrett Baber “I’D LOVE TO LAY YOU DOWN”
