If you take a quick look at Billboard’s Top 10 Country Album charts, you’ll see for the week of May 9th, #1 in the country is Reba McEntire’s “Love Somebody” and at #8 is Dwight Yoakam’s “Second Hand Heart”. If I had told you this was 1988, you wouldn’t be surprised, but this is 2015! These veterans of the game are sharing the spotlight with today’s hottest stars like Sam Hunt #2, Miranda Lambert at #5, Florida-Georgia Line #6, and Eric Church #7. Reba already held the record for most Top 10 albums by a female singer, now she’s up to 12 in her illustrious career (Loretta Lynn is second with 10). Dwight Yoakam’s album is his highest charting album since 1988’s #1 album in the country, Buenos Noches From A Lonely Room.

Buoyed by an amazing performance at the 50th Anniversary of the CMA’s, George Strait is back on the charts with his 121st hit song. Yes, you read that correctly, 121 hit songs! Many artists haven’t come close to recording that many songs in their entire career and George has that many CHARTED Singles. Ironically, George Strait’s new song, “Let It Go” (no relation to the song from Disney’s Frozen) is a welcome return to old-school country song earning most of its chart success to high tech digital sales. “Let It Go” captures the laid-back beach vibe attitude of the best of Kenny Chesney but still stays true to George’s traditional style. It’s a clever modern twist for Strait’s career.
