One of my cherished cassettes back in my early teens was “Below The Belt” by a “hidden treasure” Jersey band named Franke And The Knockouts. Yes, it’s Franke, not Frankie, named after lead singer, Franke Previtt. They didn’t have a long career but I’ll bet you remember their songs. Two incredible Top 40 smash hits, “Sweetheart” and “Without You”, featuring memorable keyboard solos and passionate vocals. Fun Fact: the drummer in the band was Tico Torres who later joined Jersey’s favorite band, Bon Jovi.
But on those early albums, they also wrote and recorded two songs named “Hungry Eyes” and “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life” which became since become synonymous with the 80’s and the movie, “Dirty Dancing”. Eric Carmen took the first song to #1 and Franke Previtt won an Academy Award for “Time Of My Life”.
