“RUNNIN’ OUT OF LUCK” LOVE & THEFT
You couldn’t listen to country radio this summer and not fall in love with “Angel Eyes” by Love & Theft. Their first #1 hit reminded us there’s a little bit of devil behind every angel’s eyes. For the eagerly anticipated second single and video, the band’s back with an enticing country song ready made for the pop charts. Featuring a dance beat more reminiscent of Maroon 5 than Brooks & Dunn and a sexy nightclub setting for the video that you wouldn’t recognize on CMT except for them drinking out of Mason jars at the trendy club. Look for another Top 10 hit from the up and coming Nashville band.
“KISS TOMORROW GOODBYE” LUKE BRYAN
“Tailgates and Tanlines” will forever be known as the album that pushed Luke Bryan into the upper echelon of country male superstars. Four Top 10 hits including my favorite country song of 2012, I Don’t Want This Night To End. The fourth single, Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye, has exceeded one million downloads. The song isn’t groundbreaking and feels like a compliment piece to the other singles on his multi-platinum CD. Yet, the rock guitars, sexy lyrics of regret suggesting she “take off her leaving dress and do what we do best”, Luke’s got another ultra catchy crossover pop hit.
“HOPE ON THE ROCKS” TOBY KEITH
First we got “Red Solo Cup”, then “Beers Ago”, onto “I Like Girls That Drink Beer”, either Toby’s trying to tell us he’s got a drinking problem or he’s switching careers and becoming the ultimate bartender. I’m going with the latter after watching Toby’s world premiere video for “Hope On The Rocks” where bar patrons are shown enjoying a drink and confessing all of their secrets to Toby behind the bar. I like the play on Neil Diamond’s classic, “Love On The Rocks” song title. This song feels like old school Toby, classic storytelling, that deep signature voice on the chorus, a welcome return to country radio.
