Scandal Is Back! Bobby Womack / Stevie Wonder Classics

ABC’s Scandal is back for the final half of Season 7, the last episodes of the series. No spoilers here but the fate of Quinn and her baby is revealed in the Winter premiere episode (S7E8) titled “Robin”. As usual, the frantic pace, the amazing chemistry between the characters, and the soap opera styled Washington intrigue have kept the hit TV show in the spotlight since it debuted in 2012. Fans of the show have always loved Olivia Pope’s (Kerry Washington) stylish fashion as have music fans who’ve appreciated their use of vintage R&B classics from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. This week’s show didn’t disappoint with the return of Olivia’s white Fedora and two cherish Soul gems from back in the day.

“NEVER DREAMED YOU LEAVE IN SUMMER” – Stevie Wonder

From Stevie Wonder’s 1971 album, “From Where I’m Coming From”, the piano ballad breakup track is one of Stevie’s most emotional songs in his illustrious catalog. You may remember it was also used in the Janet Jackson & Tupac Shakur film, “Poetic Justice”. The song about the changing seasons as a metaphor for a breakup is such a special song to Stevie that he sang it at Michael Jackson’s funeral in dedication to his friend.

“FLY ME TO THE MOON (IN OTHER WORDS)” Bobby Womack

I’m biased here because I’m a HUGE Bobby Womack fan. One of the most soulful, passionate voices in music history, Womack commands your attention with each original song or unique cover version. Here Bobby takes hold of “Fly Me To The Moon” and pulls at your heartstrings with another perfect performance.
