“Uptown Funk” was on the verge of Billboard chart immortality after sitting at #1 for fourteen consecutive weeks. Then came the Hollywood blockbuster, Furious 7, as the movie ends a touching tribute to the late Paul Walker is showcased. There was not a dry eye in the house as Paul and Vin Diesel shared one last glance, as their cars headed off in different directions at a fork in the road on a mountain drive. Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s emotional new song “See You Again” played over this incredible scene and during the final credits. The next day, “See You Again” was streamed a record 4.2 million times on Spotify. By the end of the week, it became the new #1 song in the U.S.
“SEE YOU AGAIN” Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth
Everyone assumes the song was written specifically about Paul Walker’s fatal car crash and the lyrics perfectly fit the relationship between Brian O’Conner (Paul) and Dominic Torreta (Vin). But actually Charlie Puth wrote the song almost a year before the song came out about a friend of his who died abruptly after a car accident. Charlie wrote the song hoping that one day he’d be able to speak to his friend again. Life truly imitates art only this time in the saddest way possible. Atlantic Records chose to include the song for the movie featuring the young songwriter along with Wiz Khalifa (best known for his #1 hit “Black and Yellow“). Here are two versions of the song including the original solo performance by Charlie Puth.
