Gregorian chants are sexy? Who knew! In the early 90s, a German musical project named Enigma took on the challenge of combining World Music, Gregorian chants, spoken word vocals, and sensual ambient beats into one of the most innovative styles of the decade. Over the years, Enigma has ‘broken the rules’ and set hearts a flutter with their groundbreaking sound. Most of their New Age songs are atmospheric and create a calm gentle mood like their biggest hit, “Return To Innocence”. But early on many of their songs took on a sexual vibe. Let’s check out three of Enigma’s sexiest songs:
“PRINCIPLES OF LUST” (Full) ENIGMA
Summer 2012, women had their share of stimulation with the book release of “Fifty Shades Of Grey” and Magic Mike on film. Fifty Shades became a major cultural phenomena igniting massive book sales. The story of a literature student named Anastacia interviewing a successful business entrepreneur took an erotic turn as his sexual escapades captured her fascination. The couple embarked on a tantalizing, daring affair, that challenged their desires and her hidden secrets. In one scene, Mr Grey gave Anastacia an iPad with this ultra-sensual song by Enigma.
From Enigma’s 1990 CD, MCMXC a.D. came “Mea Culpa” a slow burning hit that opened with the enticing words, “Turn off the light..take a deep breath…and relax”. Paired with a music video that featuring a beautiful woman wearing nothing more than thin veils draped over her body and scenes of water droplets cascading, it sets the perfect mood for a quiet night.
“CARLY’S LONELINESS” and “CARLY’S SONG”
After the huge success of “Sadeness (Part 1)”, the single taken from the extended version of “Principles Of Lust”, Enigma was sought by movie producers to add their vibe to their soundtracks. They held off until “Sliver”, Sharon Stone’s follow-up to the erotic thriller “Basic Instinct”. “Carly’s Loneliness” along with “Carly’s Song” fit in perfectly with the soundtrack’s songs by Massive Attack, Aftershock, and UB40’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love”.
