SHAKIRA: Then and Now (1998 vs 2014)

“CIEGA, SORDOMUDA”   Shakira

Shakira 1998Almost twenty years ago, a dark haired Colombian pop singer named Shakira broke onto the scene.  Shakira was known for her belly dancing and combining a rock edge to her Latin pop beats.    On her second CD, “Donde Estan Los Ladrones”, Shakira released one of all-time greatest hits “Ciega, Sordomuda”.   The song was recorded in Miami, Florida and Emilio Estefan produced the album.   The police chase video, the scene in the wig store, and Shakira’s long dark hair with blue and red streaks became distinctive memories on 90’s Latin music video channels.   The English translation is “Blind, deaf mute” which expresses the frustration when your loved one seems oblivious and blinded to your feelings.

“BROKEN RECORD”   Shakira

Shakira Gerard PiqueWhat an incredible career progression for the 37 year old Latin superstar!    Shakira became the most followed person in the world on Facebook earlier this year.  In 2009, Shakira was awarded “Humanitarian Of The Year” after her $8 million dollar of a school to her native country, Colombia, and for her major contributions to the Global Campaign For Education.  She’s an international star who this year alone became a high-profile coach on NBC’s The Voice and closed out the 2014 World Cup Closing Ceremonies.   Shakira is currently as happy as ever sporting a “baby bump” as she’s expecting her second child with long-time boyfriend, Gerard Pique.
