Songs Of Faith, Inspirational Messages: Whitney Houston with R. Kelly, Donnie McClurkin with Kirk Franklin, Wynonna Judd,Tim Hughes

“I LOOK TO YOU”  (NEW duet!)      WHITNEY HOUSTON with R. KELLY
In December, a special posthumous greatest hits collection from Whitney Houston will be released. Included on the CD will be a newly produced duet version of the R. Kelly penned “I Look To You”. If you remember, Robert performed this song at Whitney’s funeral and brought the crowd, including Bobbi Kristina, to tears. Whitney originally recorded the song in 2009 on her last CD of new material. Reworked as a duet with R. Kelly, the song keeps the inspirational message yet hearing R Kelly’s turn on the lyrics, reminds us of Whitney’s one-of-a-kind talent and memories of her funeral.

“OOH CHILD”    DONNIE McCLURKIN and KIRK FRANKLIN
“Oooooh Child, Things Are Going To Get Easier”…..who hasn’t heard this song and smiled and sang along. The original version was recorded in 1970 by the Five Stairsteps. The 70’s pop hit hinted at the spiritual theme but a remake by Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin emphasized the gospel undercurrent yet kept it faithful to the pop sing-along version. The new version was used in the movie, “The Gospel” in 2005, a reworking of the Bible’s parable of the prodigal son.

“TESTIFY TO LOVE” WYNONNA JUDD

Probably one of my top 5 all-time “inspirational/spiritual” songs of all-time. Wynonna’s enthusiasm to have everyone join her in her thankful praise to God and her appeal to “use more than words” to testify to love. Add in a choir, a chorus that you’ll be humming all day long, and a powerful blast of positive motivation and you have an unforgettable musical moment that I hope you’ll play whenever you’re having a rough day.

“WHEN TEARS FALL”   TIM HUGHES

A friend of mine who is very religious told me that this song “saved her life”.  The highly sensitive yet motivating message of these lyrics changed her outlook on life and inspired her in a dark moment.  Yes, the lyrics speak of looking to Jesus and true faith, but don’t be put off by the Christian theme. Anyone, regardless of different beliefs, must recognize the power of believing in something so profoundly that it can sincerely change your life. Tears of sorrow can turn to beautiful tears of happiness when your conviction, determination, and even faith, takes over your heart and soul.
