SPRINGSTEEN & I: Movie Review

springsteen-iOne night only, on July 22nd, I was one of a select few who were lucky enough to catch the documentary “Springsteen and I”.    The 90 minute film was produced by the award winner documentary director of “Life In One Day” which chronicled a series of home videos from people around the world capturing 24 hours.  In a similar fashion, the Springsteen documentary was comprised of personal videos from Bruce’s biggest fans worldwide.   They were asked, “How would you describe Bruce in only 3 words”?   The heartfelt submissions, the life-changing stories combined with the never seen before footage taken from cell-phones and lost bootlegs create a deep personal connection between a true artist and his fans.

A London woman gets picked out of the crowd and become a real-life Courtney Cox for Dancing In The Dark.

A super-fan from Philly dresses up as Elvis and holds a sign, “Let the Boss sing with the King”.    His dream came true!

A husband who wasn’t a big fan and his obsessed wife.   They both meet Bruce before a show and he not only dedicates “Brilliant Disguise” to her, they are both invited backstage after the show.

A street performer who yells to Bruce on the street, “How about hearing the real thing?”   Bruce joins him in the street and does a couple of impromptu songs.

springsteen and iAfter the 90 minute show and final credits, there is a special 30 minute/six song concert from Hyde Park concluding with two duets with Sir Paul McCartney.   This was the concert where they shut the lights down with the two music icons still wanting to play more.

But wait, there’s more!   An epilogue where five of the most memorable fan submissions all meet Bruce backstage and share some special memories.  It’s a true Springsteen fan dream and even if you’re not a fan, you’ll be touched by the passion and love mutually shared. It’s showing for ONE MORE NIGHT, July 30th, at select theaters, highly recommended!
