When you hear the song title “Stay With Me” what song do you think of first? Which version means the most to you today? There have been FOUR completely unique versions that may tell a lot about your musical taste, your age, or your personality.
If you’re a classic rock fan, The Faces cranked up the amps and ripped into one of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 100 Guitar Solo Jams of all-time. The song kicks off with a bluesy Ronnie Wood riff followed by Rod Stewart’s cautionary tale, “In the morning, don’t say you love me, ’cause I’ll only kick you out the door”. This one MUST be played at maximum volume.
If you’re a new music fan than obviously Sam Smith’s beautiful 2014 version of “Stay With Me” is your favorite. Opening with a church organ, Sam’s “Guess it’s true I’m not good at a one-night stand, but I still need love ’cause I’m just a man” with take your breath away. The haunting melody and the yearning in Sam’s voice begs you to give him another chance.
If you’re ultra-romantic and planning that special candelight dinner with roses, you can’t go wrong with Teddy Pendergrass’ 80’s slow jam “Stay With Me”. The arrangement sounds like a lost Disney love song but combining Teddy’s seductive voice and those lyrics “So stay with me
Tonight I’ll show you that our love is something beautiful
I’m gonna give you all the loving you need” will keep the evening flowing right.
A fourth version is by Notorious B.I.G. His rap classic “One More Chance / Stay With Me” features guest vocals by Faith Evans and Mary J. Blige. The song samples Debarge’s version of “Stay With Me” and debuted at #5 on the Billboard Charts and became one of Biggy’s biggest chart hits.
