Survivor: The Tale of The Rotating Lead Singers

“EVER SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN”   SURVIVOR’S DAVE BICKLER WITH JIMI JAMISON

survivor eyeEveryone knows Survivor’s “Eye Of The Tiger” but many don’t know the history of one of the most bipolar bands in music history.  They’re an AOR act that has at least one “guilty pleasure” rock song on everyone’s list of favorites.   They began with lead singer, Dave Bickler, from 1978-1983 and had their biggest hit after being included on the Rocky III soundtrack.   But then his vocal problems caused them to find a new lead singer.

vital signsJimi Jameson led the band in their most successful period from 1984-89.  Multiple Top 10 hits (Search Is Over, High On You, Burning Heart) before Jamison went solo and the band took a break.   In 1993, they asked Bickler to come back!   For the next seven years, Survivor released several unremarkable albums.   Something had to change.   I know, let’s bring back Jimi Jamison 🙂   So he led the group from 2000-2006.    He quit in 2006 only to return in 2011 for his third stint with the band.

DAVE BICKLER YEARS:

“EYE OF THE TIGER”

“I’M NOT THAT MAN ANYMORE”

JIMI JAMISON YEARS:

“I SEE YOU IN EVERYONE”

“THE SEARCH IS OVER”

  1. I love Survivor!!! “The Search is over” and “I can’t hold back” are my favorites. 🙂 Jimi was way better than Dave. Either way all of their songs are pretty awesome. 🙂 🙂 🙂
