Trainspotting 2 – Movie Trailer and Soundtrack

“Trainspotting” debuted twenty years ago and broke Ewan McGregor (the future Obi-Wan Kenobi) into the spotlight.   The stylish and wild drug fueled escapades of four Edinburgh lads shocked audiences with their explicit heroin use and became one of those “must see” movies of 1996.   It’s still got an 8.2 rating on   Who can forget that cringe-worthy scene of “the worst toilet in Scotland” and Ewan’s dive into the abyss to get his drugs?   The movie poster became one of the most popular and trendy images of the 90s and the soundtrack reintroduced the world to punk and New Wave bands like Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Joy Division.  Electronica artists, Goldie and Underworld became breakout stars after the film debuted.

Will lightning strike again?   “Trainspotting 2” is set for release on March 31st in the U.S.   The story picks up when Mark comes back to Scotland and has a reunion with his crew, Sick Boy, Spud, and Begbie.   All of our favorites from the original film are back including director Danny Boyle along with  Ewan McGregor (Mark Renton), Johnny Lee Miller (Simon), and Ewan Bremner (Spud).   The soundtrack will be another collection of vintage cuts by Frankie Goes To Hollywood (Relax), The Clash (White Man In Hammersmith Palais), and Queen (Radio Gaga).    Some newer artists including Wolf Alice (Silk), Young Fathers (three songs including Get Up), and the Rubberbandits (Dad’s Best Friend) compliment the classics from the 80s. The opening cut is a Prodigy remix of Iggy Pop’s “Lust For Life” that nicely ties into the original movie.
