VMA Nominees: Video With A Social Message

mtv-video-awards-2015An early childhood dream was being an MTV VJ or programming director at my favorite music TV channel. Imagine being able to play all of your favorite videos all day long! Thirty years later, MTV has completely given up on music and probably needs a network name change. Example: Wednesday, July 22nd, 2015 from 12PM to Midnight, MTV is running two hours of their reality shows, Awkward and White People. The other 10 hours? A Catfish marathon! ZERO MUSIC played on the Music Television channel. But keep hope alive, MTV promises some actual music will be played next month during the 2015 Video Music Award ceremony hosted by Miley Cyrus.

rihanna-american-oxygen-music-video-flagMTV is so out of touch with music today that their Best Rock Video will probably be won by Walk The Moon’s “Shut Up And Dance“. Great dance song, but it’s in the Rock section with Fall Out Boy and Hozier? One award category at the VMA’s that captured my attention was Best Video With A Social Message. True, these may not rival the popularity of “Anaconda”, “Bad Blood“, and “Bang Bang” but there are videos trying to educate and change the world. Here are the 5 nominees:

JENNIFER HUDSON “I STILL LOVE YOU” profits donated to the Human Rights Committee

COLBIE CAILLAT “TRY” (previously posted)

BIG SEAN, KANYE WEST, JOHN LEGEND “ONE MAN CAN CHANGE THE WORLD”

RIHANNA “AMERICAN OXYGEN”

WALE “THE WHITE SHOES” Opens with a Jerry Seinfeld joke used throughout Wale’s CD
