Why do dogs only live 10 to 15 glorious years and we live 70 or more? The saying goes, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.” One of the most touching commercials of the past six months is Suburu’s “Dream Weekend” which celebrates an older dog getting to live out some of his lifelong fantasies. The 60 second spot features a great twenty year old Willie Nelson song called “I’ve Loved You All Over The World” that hardly anyone had heard before the commercial aired. If you slow down the video, you can see the whole bucket list:
1. Road Trip 2. 100 Tennis Balls 3. Ferris Wheel 4. Skydiving 5. Beach 6. Old Girlfriend 7. Chew A Shoe 8. Massage at a Hotel 9. Hot Air Balloon 10. Breakfast in Bed 11. Looping Roller Coaster 12. River Rafting 13. Ride A Train 14. Sneak In A Hotel Room 15. Run In The Park 16. Dig A Big Hole
Willie Nelson released his song on his 1998 Teatro album. The album was produced by Daniel Lanois most famous for his work in the 80’s with U2. Teatro was recorded in an old movie theater in California and features vocals by Emmylou Harris as Willie goes back in time and re-recorded some of his songs from the early 60’s including “My Own Peculiar Way” and “Three Days”. The album never became a commercial hit, but now the Suburu commercial has made “I’ve Loved You All Over The World” one of Willie’s most cherished sentimental ballads to dog lovers worldwide.
