Where Are They Now? Sexy 90’s R&B Girl Groups: En Vogue, Xscape, TLC, Danity Kane

“RUNAWAY LOVE”      EN VOGUE
envogueThe original Funky Divas, Dawn Robinson, Terry Ellis, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones, were not only one of the biggest selling artists of the 90’s, their style influenced a slew of imitators over the next 20 years. The band’s elegant yet sexy style only remained together for two albums. Dawn left during the third CD, EV3, and by the end of the 90’s En Vogue wasn’t commercially viable. They reunited in 2008 for the BET Awards and they recorded a single, “I’ll Cry Later” in 2009. The inevitable diva breakup occurred again. Currently Dawn and Maxine are forming a new En Vogue and Cindy and Terry are continuing as the original group. Lawsuits, lawyers, and a sad end to one of the best R&B girl groups of all-time.

“WHO CAN I RUN TO”      XSCAPE
xscapeDiscovered by Jermaine Dupri, Xscape made a splash in the 90’s with hit singles like “Just Kickin’ It” and “Feeling So Good”. Their church background and soulful voices shined on ballads like “Who Can I Run To”. The band went their separate ways. Tameka “Tiny” Cottle is most famous for her husband, T.I., and their reality TV series. Kandi appears on the Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Tamika Scott has turned to acting and Tyler Perry movies.

“GET IT UP”    TLC
tlcAfter the tragic death of Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopez, TLC will never be the same trio. T-Boz and Chili have remained friends and have performed together on shows like American Idol and have plans to release some new material in 2013. T-Boz is fittingly starring in a new reality TV show on the TLC network 🙂 Here’s a lost video from the Poetic Justice soundtrack, a sexually assertive club hit originally recorded by Morris Day and the Time.

“RIDE FOR YOU”     DANITY KANE
danity kaneP. Diddy’s reality TV show band, Danity Kane, put together five young ladies who had the looks, the attitude, and decent voices. Unfortunately their material wasn’t incredible and their harmony didn’t come across a true unified group. I’m stunned that the ultra-sexy Aundrea Fimbres (the Christina Aguilera clone) didn’t become a solo superstar with her dynamic voice! Aubrey O’Day made a memorable appearance on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice. D. Woods and Dawn joined Diddy for his latest CD. Shannon Bex is working on a country album!
